Used to all the time....until I started flying the real thing. Now I find it much easier to fly a real aircraft and to be in the ****pit proper, than in front of the PC !

Hi, first timer here
since you're talkin' about sims... I'd like to say that I have been flying/playing FS2004 for 2 years now. It's alot of fun if you stick with the right people. I have only once been in a C172 and flown it(I don't hold any certificate). However I think it's alot of fun and I have learnt alot about aviation, it has also made me go for the aviation career. I'm from the Faroe Islands which is pretty remote to the rest of the world, specially to the aviation business. Though I plan to go over to USA and start my training at some JAA certified flight school.
One posted earlier that he couldn't fly an airplane with the arrow keys on the keyboard. well I must say, that's the easiest part, it's only very inaccurate and not as fun as with the joystick. Regarding the navigational settings in the game, you'll need an add-on called fsnavigator. You have all the airports in the game, with VOR, DME, ILS freq and everything. You can use the GPS as the autopilot, frankly I like to navigate by numbers instead of letting the computer do the flying and navigation by itself.
If you'd like to come fly on a fun server you could pm me and I might get you onto a real fun server. We fly everywhere in the world, with very different airplanes. I could say we have our "periods". It changes from week to week, jets, props, choppers, vintage.. you name it. The best flights are in the himalayas with C172's or similar. Makes you concentrate like hell and really pushes the airplane to the limit. Someone might find it unrealistic, but for some it's realistic as it gets. Since I've only flown an airplane once, I think that FS2004 is as realistic as a PC game with no extras equipment can get.
My advice to beginners of the FS2004 community is to buy a headset w/microphone, a good joystick with Force feedback + rudders. Download the voice comm program called Teamspeak 2 Client and find a good server which you can come back to any day any time you want. Start with the Zone and search your way to a permanent server. It's a good way to get new friends all over the world.
I have over 2 years behind me with the same people on this server and it only gets better.
You'll prolly see me posting on here alot from now on
Best Regards Hans Kristian Hansen

You then normally have to pay the VAT amount from that country, and since VAT is 0% for Airplanes in Denmark..
